Southern Living: layered furnishings, as in this interior by Frances Macdougall

Southern Living asked Southern designers for their favorite upcoming trends. Here are a few.

  • A show of restraint - paring back rooms to the bare essentials and building on that focus removes the superfluous and nonessential

  • A shift towards neutrals - with even plusher fabrics, color and pattern can take more of a backseat

  • Warmer hues - painting all elements of a room can elevate the look and beauty of any space

  • Saturated cabinet colors - you’ll be seeing a lot more purple and eggplant cabinetry in the future

Color experts are predicting that people will be much more adventurous with their color choices with bright pinks, playful aquas, and rich browns leading the charge. Of course, neutrals will never go out of style, but they are warming up with buttery and blush tones rising in popularity. All experts also agree color will be more personal than ever in the coming years.
— Veranda

Veranda: earthy greens and unapologetic pinks and reds

Veranda surveyed color experts and they say the following will be “huge” for 2024.

  • The dark (and chic) side - rich deep colors to balance all those pops of color

  • Bringing back the blues - blue is making a major resurgence (we’d argue it never went out of style)

  • Intriguing purples - experiment with color here, from purples and eggplant to lilacs

  • Unapologetic pinks and reds - the Barbie influence continues

  • Lustrous yellows and oranges - many choices for Color of the Year come from this color family

  • Earthy greens - muted, toned-down, approachable greens are calming and elegant

  • Warming neutrals - think your old neutrals with more buttery and off-white tones
