TV Future Features
A recent study shows that 5 to 8% of U.S. households don’t own a television set. While this small number is growing, it’s still not the norm. TVs rule American homes, for better or worse. They entertain us, challenge us (particularly when sets are combined with video games), educate us, and sometimes simply numb us when we want to watch something that will take our minds off the everyday world.
We looked into how television technology is changing and how that will impact homeowners. Here’s a summary of some TV Innovations we’re going to be seeing for 2026:
Micro RGB Technology: Samsung and LG are heavily promoting Micro RGB, using microscopic red, green, and blue LEDs for superior brightness, color accuracy, and precise control, moving beyond traditional Mini-LEDs.
Brighter, Better OLEDs: Expect significantly brighter OLEDs (LG's G-series, C6H) with new tandem panels, improved color volume, and features like LG's Brightness Booster Ultra, making them great for bright rooms.
Wallpaper OLEDs (LG W6): LG's ultra-thin, 9mm-thick OLEDs blend into walls like art, using a wireless Zero Connect Box to eliminate cable clutter, transforming TVs into digital decor.
Advanced AI Processing: LG's α11 AI Processor Gen 3 enhances upscaling, image tuning, and HDR tone mapping for sharper, smoother visuals and better black levels.
Glare-Free & Artful Designs: Samsung's Micro RGB and OLEDs feature anti-reflection finishes, while LG's art-focused OLEDs turn into digital art when not in use, reducing screen burn-in risk for art display.
Next-Gen Mini-LEDs: TCL's X11L uses Super Quantum Dot (SQD) tech for improved green quantum dots and color, offering high performance in more accessible sizes.
