AI Design Wisdom

Jay Johnson - Artificial Intelligence (AI) is in the news all the time. I’ve always wondered if computers and specialty programs could successfully plumb the depths of accumulated human knowledge in order to come up with something creative, coherent, and persuasive. So I’ve decided to do an AI experiment around interior design.

Our website service, Squarespace, added artificial intelligence to their blog post bag of tricks, so we put their AI feature through its paces and asked for a paragraph of content on interior design topics. The topics are in bold (see below).

My take on what AI can do: not too shabby. In less than a few SECONDS we got the responses that you see here. Each question would have taken human hours — not seconds — to research and write. I think the AI engine pulled copy from existing written material as I checked some of the text for plagiarism and, while no text seems to be an exact match for existing text, as much as 30% of some text passages might come from existing sources and were grammatically reconfigured. So IWI will stick with our own original content and product and vendor picks in the future.
